Michigan Motorcycle Fatalities on the Rise
Fatality rate per crash-involved motorcyclist increased from 36 in 2010 to a high of 47 in 2018.
A new report from the Michigan Department of State Police shows that the fatality rate per crash-involved motorcyclist has increased significantly in recent years.
The report, which looked at data from 2017 to 2021, found that the fatality rate per crash-involved motorcyclist increased from 36 in 2010 to a high of 47 in 2018. The report also found that the number of motorcycle-involved crashes has increased in recent years, from 934 in 2016 to 1,024 in 2020.
According to the report, the most common type of motorcycle-involved crash is a single-vehicle crash, followed by crashes involving another vehicle.
The report also found that motorcyclists are more likely to be killed in crashes than other drivers. In 2021, motorcyclists accounted for 17% of traffic fatalities in Michigan, even though they only made up 3% of registered vehicles.
The Michigan Department of State Police is urging motorcyclists to take steps to stay safe on the road, such as wearing a helmet, obeying the speed limit, and avoiding alcohol and drugs.
