Hurricane Idalia Wreaks Havoc in Southeastern United States
Category 4 Hurricane Devastates Region
Hurricane Idalia, a powerful Category 4 hurricane, has caused widespread damage across parts of the southeastern United States. The storm rapidly intensified over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, unleashing its fury on the region.
Category 4 Assault
Idalia briefly strengthened into an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday, bringing sustained winds of up to 130 mph (215 kph). The storm battered coastal areas with torrential rain and devastating winds, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Tropical Storm Transition and Lingering Effects
As Idalia moved inland over South Carolina, it weakened to a tropical storm. However, its heavy rain and sustained winds of 60 mph (97 kph) continued to lash the Southeast, causing flooding and power outages.
Hurricane Force Continues
Despite its downgrade, Idalia remains a Category 1 hurricane as it crosses south Georgia. At 85 mph (140 kph), the storm still poses a significant threat to life and property. The National Hurricane Center warns of continued heavy rainfall and flooding dangers.
